Regarding a basic doubt in Percentage chapter

Hi Could anyone please help me with the question posted

If Rama's income is 20% more than Shyama's income, by what percentage is Shyama's income less than Rama's?
Sol.Instead of using x or y, take Shyama's income as Rs 100. Then, Ram’s income = Rs 120. Therefore, Shyama's income is Rs 20 less or 1/6th less or 16.66% less than Rama's income. Similarly, if Ram’s income were less by 20%, then Rama's income would be Rs 80 and hence Shyam’s income would be Rs 20 more or 25% more than Rama's income.

I want to know how do we find in general "x is what  percentage of y" in the above case how did we arrive that 20 is1/6th or 16.66 %. Please help me with this very basic doubt.

Please read the chapter and remember the basic fraction/percentages given

Given Rama's income is 20% more than Shyama's income
Let Shyam’s income = 100, then Rama’s income is 120 (as its 20% more than Shyam’s income)

So Shyam’s income is 20 (= 120-100) less than Rama’s income.

Now rest of the Question is “ by what percentage is Shyama's income less than Rama's?”

We know Shyam’s income is 20 less than Rama’s income where Rama’s income is 120.
So if we consider Rama’s income as our base of calculation then
Shyam’s income is 20 less than Rama’s income where Rama’s income is 120
=> Shyam’s income is 1/6(20/120) less than Rama’s income where Rama’s income
=> Shyam’s income is 16.66% (1/6 x 100) less than Rama’s income where Rama’s income

Please let me know if it s clear now.
