I don’t agree with this point. .

All Managers are first human beings and society starts with each individual, so as an element of the society they do their part as other professionals does.

Now coming to the question does a management degree adds any special social responsibility or does managers do anything extraordinary from other professionals?

Few does and few don’t as it happens in any other professionals and finally everything comes down to each individual. Those people who are responsible towards society always servers it in many different ways but people having an unique degree in management like MBA in forest, MBA in social sector or rural management does something more as a part of their profession and career.
 
The work culture and environment has changed significantly in last 6/7 decades because of human resource management. Due to the depth study and experiments of management we have come to a point where we know how much to work in a week or in a day. It helps us balancing the work we do and the amount of rest our body needs and thus creating a healthy society.

The contribution of management study and managers is immense to the society.

If Doctors don’t add value to the society, If Engineers don’t add value to the society, If Lawyers don’t add value to the society, if mathematicians/economist/ etc don’t add value to the society then Managers also don’t add value to the society. .

What is society?
As already said earlier, we each individual forms the society and all the professions together helps in nourishing it. If any ingredient of the society stops functioning then we wont exist.

The way management education has evolved in last one century I think now it forms the core of the society. Can we imagine any industry/business to exits with out the help of managers?  Be it engineering/medicine/agriculture or any other sectors, managers hold key positions and take the most important decisions that moves the society in right direction.

What z inside the Brain of a typical manager

Are mangers supposed to do anything special than others. . .

To give a better answer to this question I think we can put each human in two categories.

I. People who are directly involved in building the society and thus there by making it a better place to live. For example: IAS/Police/Politics/etc
No society can exist without the active participation and collaboration of members of this group of people.

II. Rest fall into a second category – Mangers, Engineers, Doctors. .
All the members of these groups within civil society don’t take any active participation in building a society but they are supposed to do their own job and there by helping the whole human race.

So I really don’t get the meaning of the question:

Managers do not add value to the society?

I completely disagree to the fact that managers donot add value to the society...afterall managers are also individuals......

I agree with the point that managers are a bit professional. They have to show productivity they have to go beyond the limit in their professional life. They have to compare their products and services from other rivals.

But this is one part of the coin. If you will look for the other part they are also a human being. They also have emmotions, feelings and thought. They also follow the rules of society. In fact they follow the rules and responsibility of society better than other. Because they can understand that why the rules are made.

In short we can say that managers are the perfect balace between the professional life and social life. For instance if they have to touch the sky among their rivals they also have to understand the personnal problems of workers. I hope a good manager is a good balancer(a person who makes perfect balance).

What if I am a manager.
