There are many ways in cutting a cubical diamond into 960 identical pieces ( 2 x 48 x 10 , 6 x 10 x 16 . . . .etc)

But for minimum number of cuts it should be done as

960 = 12 x 8 x 10 (pieces)

To get N pieces we make N-1 cuts

so number of cuts in above case : 11 x 7 x 9 i. e 27 cuts altogether

Now to get maximum number of diamonds out of 27 cuts we have to make 9 cuts in all length , breadth and width wise.

So total number of pieces = 10 x 10 x 10 = 1000

plz tell me the concept of getting min. no. of cuts for 960 as 12*8*10 more elaborately.whether u have used some techniqe or by hit and trial method.plz also explain the same concept of getting 27 as 9*9*9.

I think the maximum value (product) of a number 3X = X^{3 }~~when X is not equal to 1~~

For example for 3X = 6 = 1 + 2 + 3 product 6

= 2 + 2 + 2 product 8

for 3X = 9 = 1 + 2 + 6 product 12

= 1 + 3 + 5 product 15

= 1 + 4 + 4 product 16

= 2 + 3 + 4 product 24

= 3 + 3 + 3 product 27

And mark the product increases when move towards X (3 here)

Total time = 3600 x 24

Let s consider there are n number of bells and all starts at a particular time(say 12PM) and the interval is 1 min. , 2 min. and . . . . . n minutes

Then all 'll ring at a time which is the LCM of (1, 2 , 3. . . . n)

and that time gap should be less than (3600 x 24 )/18 = 4800

LCM of (1, 2, 3. . . . n) ≤ 4800

=> n = 10
