IMS material is sufficient or not

hi all I am about to start my cat preparation. Being a working person its not possible for me to attend any class room course so I am thinking about going for IMS correspondence course. My question - IMS correspondence material is sufficient for CAT or do I need to buy some other books or coaching center materials. Again IMS has only 8 simcats which is a small number compared to TIMS/CL So what you guys suggest ?

What books/notes you need

What books/notes you need depend completely upon your level of analytica/quantitavive/reasoning/English knowledge. All the coaching center notes contain very basic study materials and most of them are very similar to what you can find on this site. If you ask they are complete or sufficient to clear the CAT then the answer is both yes and no Because few might get 99%tile just following ims materials and many might now. It doesn’t mean that the correspondence course lacks something or the students who fail are not competent enough. The problem is that all the study materials are made with a broder prospect with keeping in mind an average student and the emphasis given to all the sections are same. So what might be sufficient for others might not be so for you. Let me explain giving an example. Science/Arts graduates always complain that CAT is very engineer friendly and that’s some what correct. engineers easily score good marks in math/di sections. But all of them are not good in all parts of math One student may be very good in geometry but not so in Algebra. For him any notes on geometry can serve the purpose but he/she definitely needs some quality material on algebra and at this point you will face problem if you just follow one coaching centers notes. TIME might have one good chapter and IMS another. Well its not possible to go through the notes/question paper for all the coaching centers. So the best is to go for one but don’t restrict your self only to that, thinking you are doing enough. If you don’t find one particular chapter/section so good then ask for frisnds / search on net to get some thing better. So final answer is you can go for IMS / Time/CF or else but don’t restrict yourself only to that.

Material matter or not

Basically the material prepared by any coaching institute is for general people with wider perspective,but thing is they are enough for developing general aptitude ability.And at the end of the day its u who need to develop logic and need to use your brain Samuel

True that’s why I always believe for exams like CAT/GMAT one need to be more proactive in learning new concepts/ questions from all the available resources rather than restricting one self to a particular coaching center material

Just adding to the wonderful comments given by srikant – It’s really not possible to say if all of the 2 lakhs CAT aspirants will find any coaching center materials useful for them. As an individual its your responsibility to check if the stuffs you are reading and questions you are practicing is adding any value to your preparation or not. If you don’t fell so then watch out for a different book/-coaching center. From my own experience I can say that TIME is best when it comes Quant. Every year they come up with real mind challenging Quant questions and IMS materials are quite good in English Sections.

I will rate IMS study martial far below the TIME. Most of their notes are out dated and they are far from the contemporary CAT patterns. TIME and CL materials on the other hand changes every year and the notes reflect all the changes made in recent CAT pattern and the questions
