asnwer Q 16

Q16.A can do a work in 10 days and B can do the same work inb 20 days. They work together for 5 days and then A goes away. In how many more days will B finish the work?

ANS: A : 10 =>Efficiency/Day = 1/10

        B: 20 =>Efficiency/Day = 1/20

Together : Efficiency/Day = 1/10 + 1/20 = 3/20

Work done in 5 days = 3/20 x 5 = 3/4

Work Left = 1 - 3/4 = 1/4

Time taken by B to complete the remaining job = (1/4)/(1/20) = 5 Days

Q7. In a hospital there is a

Q7. In a hospital there is a consumption of 1350 litres of milk for 70 patients for 30 days. How many patients will consume 1710 litres of milk in 28 days?
(a)59
(b)85
(c)95
(d)105

ANS:

1350 / (70*30) = 1710/(n*28)

=>n = (1710*70*30)/(1350*28) = 95

Answer to Question No.15

Persons            Hrs                               Work

     4                 5 x 8=40 hrs                     1

so 2 persons will consume  40 x (4/2) = 80hrs for 1 work.

Now, 2 persons will need 2 x 80 hrs = 160 hrs for 2 work

so number of work hrs. required for  20 days are 160 hrs.

so each day they ll work for 160/20= 8 hrs. per day

so the answer is 8 hrs per day

Q14.A software company is getting ready to release a new product. A QA Director is notifired the following. A Junior Vertification Engineer takes one hour longer to fix a bug (in the code) than ittakes a Senior Engineer. If they can fix the bug in 5 hours working together, how long would it take each Engineer to finish the task by themselves?

Let verification engg. takes V hrs to finish the work

and let senior engg. takes S hrs to finish the work

then V = S+1

so we have,

1/V + 1/S  = 1/5,

1/(S+1) + 1/S  = 1/5

this gives,

S2 - 9S - 5 = 0

and thus S = 9.524 hrs and  V is therefore 10.524 hrs.

Q13. A can do a piece of work in 6 days, B in 8 days and C in 12 days , B & C together do the work for 2 days and then C is replaced by A. Find the total time required to finish the work?

A does 1/ 6 of the work per day,

B does 1/ 8 of the work per day,

C does 1/ 12 of the work per day,

So,  B& C  together have efficiency of  1/8 +1/12 = 5/24 of the work per day, so in two days they did 5/12 of the work.

Remaing work = 1- 5/12= 7/12

Efficiency of A& B together = 1/6 + 1/8 = 7/24

So no of days required for remaining work to be finished = (7/12)/ (7/24) =2 days

soln to Q.11

if 15 men work 1 hr/day then total man hours required= 15x1x210=3150 (total work) . . . in 100 days 15x1x100=1500 work is finished hence left over work=3150-1500=1650 now total men= 30 therefore total work done in a day= 30x1=30 hence if no of days required ='n' then 30x1xn=1650 => n=51 hence ans is 51

Q8.If A,B and C can finish a

Q8.If A,B and C can finish a job in 10 days and then D joins them and he can finish the job in 15 days how long will it take them to finish 4 times the same amount of work.

Sol: A,B,C can do a work in 10 days.
So in one day they can do(1/10) of the total work.
According to question if D can do the work in 15 days.
So in one day D can do1/15 of the total work.
Let the time taken to complete 4 times the work be "a" days.
It means,a(1/10+1/15)=4
Solving,a=24 days.

Ans:24 days

Q9. If the rent for grazing

Q9. If the rent for grazing 40 cows for 20 days is Rs 370, how many cows can graze for 30 days on Rs 111?
(a)6
(b)8
(c)5
(d)12

Sol:Let the number of cows be "a".
According to question,
(40x20)/370=(30xa)/111

Solving, a=8 cows.
Ans:(b) 8.

Q12.One machine can complete

Q12.One machine can complete a job in 10 minutes. If this machine and an older machine do the same job together, the job can be completed in 6 minutes. How long would it take the older machine to do the job?

Sol: Let the older nachine can do it alone in "a"  minutes.

So,6(1/10+1/a)=1

Solving, a=15 minutes.

Ans: 15 minutes.
