Two Quant doubts

Please help me insolving the following two questions Q1.What is the coefficient of the linear term of the least degree polynomial whose graph passes through (1,1), (0,-1), (2, 4)? Q2. One root of mx2 + 8x + 4 =0 is three times the other root. The value of m is a. -5 b. 5 c. -28/9 d. -3 e. 3

let l and k be the roots of

let l and k be the roots of the quadratic eqn ax^2 + bx + c =0 then l+k = -b/a lk = c/a in the question l = 3k thus: 4k = -8/m 3k^2 = 4/m eliminating k we obtain m = 3

clearly the points dont lie

clearly the points dont lie on a straight line. so the least polynomial that can be deternines exactly from 3 points is quadratic. thus f(x) = ax^2 + bx + c substitute and solve for b to get the answer.
